The Used Book Recycling Campaign, co-organised by World Vision Hong Kong (WVHK) and AEON (Hong Kong) Department Store Co., Ltd. (AEON), is returning after three years. This year’s campaign officially opened at Citywalk 2 today (25 August).
Officiating guests of the Opening Ceremony included Mr Edward Yau Tang-wah; Miss Maria Luisa Leitao, local Artiste; Mr Mason Fung Ho-yeung, local Artiste; Mr Li Yat-ming, Assistant General Manager, Operations Division (GMS & SSM), AEON Stores (Hong Kong) Co., Limited; and Ms Amy Fung, Chief Executive Officer of WVHK (listed in no particular order). At the ceremony, Edward, Luisa, and Mason donated their books to the book sale.
Since its launch in 1992, the fundraiser has been co-organised by WVHK and AEON, aiming to protect the environment by practising the concept of reuse, encourage reading for pleasure, as well as raise funds for low-income and needy children and families through charity sales of second-hand books. Book prices range from $10 to $15, with different types of books available at the sale, such as Chinese and English children’s books, comic books, novels, leisure books, and reference books. All are welcome to the book sale.
The proceeds of this year’s campaign will go to WVHK’s local programme that provides education and skills training for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in Hong Kong. The administrative expenses of the campaign are fully supported by AEON and other sponsors.
During the book sale period, the organisers partner with local NGOs to invite children from low-income and needy families to the event, letting children bring books home for free and share the joy of reading.
